The counting is over and
the money is in....

THE final sums raised by Paul Taylor and Andrew Malins on their Lands End to John o'Groats cycle ride have now been finalised. Their efforts raised £2614.37 for Jersey Hospice and £3448.30 for St Kentigern's Hospice in North Wales.

Paul and Andrew would like to thank everyone who supported their efforts ... and all their backers would like to thank them too for their fantastic feat!

They reached their destination early afternoon on October 24, 2005, to biting winds but a warm welcome from the hostelries up there.

They began their marathon ride Cornwall on Saturday, October 8, and made excellent progress all the way on their journey to raise funds for two hospices. The weather was in the main kind to them, although the final day proved the toughest with strong winds and a distinct chill making the going tough.

They were inspired on their charity quest by the care given to this website's creator Dave Williams by the staff at St Kentigern hospice, St Asaph, as a brain tumour claimed his life just over a year ago.

Dave, pictured below, was a passionate campaigner who devoted his website to persuade the authorities to revive Colwyn Bay's fortunes.

When he became seriously ill, his family appreciated immensely the care and support St Kentigern's were able to offer.

That care is dependent on charity donations as independent hospices are not funded by the NHS. This year has proved challenging for hospices everywhere as charity fund-raising has been diverted to the world's major disasters

Paul is married to Dave's daughter Colwyn-Bay born Lynda. They live in Jersey with their sons Thomas and Edward. Paul has been training hard for the cycle ride throughout the year, cycling to and from work in St. Helier and attending ÒspinningÓ classes at a gym.

Proceeds from the cycle ride will also benefit the hospice in Jersey. Money raised on the island will go to the Jersey hospice.

Paul paid tribute to the work of hospices and said he hopes the cycle ride will not only bring in much-needed funds but also help raise awareness of the valuable work they perform.

"Dave's immediate family were truly grateful for the care provide by St Kentigern's and the help they received in coping with the trauma of losing someone so close. Hospices are a vital part of our services yet rely so much on volunteers to keep them running.
